Introduction

The book PROFILES IN EXCELLENCE, in the series A VISION OF INDIA, features a few of the many eminent Indians who have made their mark in various fields such as the performing arts, sports, science, industry, literature and others. The book is an attempt to acquaint readers with contemporary Indians and their contributions to the country.

The book captures the genius of sports people like Kapil Dev, Viswanathan Anand, and P.T. Usha; scientists like Homi Bhabha and Vikram Sarabhai; film-makers like Satyajit Ray, and many other personalities from varied walks of life. All of them have achieved great heights in their fields and have made India proud.

With each profile, there is a section titled ‘DO YOU KNOW?’ which provides additional information to the reader in the related fields - a novel combination of knowledge and stimulation.

A VISION OF INDIA has been conceived as a continuing series. The books have been planned with the goal of unveiling India’s modem profile to young readers.
