Note to Readers

We are happy to introduce this new edition of the book. We are overwhelmed with the positive reaction of our readers. This edition has a new format which increases the readability of the book.

This book explains about 39 mantras from Rig Veda dealing with the manifestation of bliss in everyone. It contains four chapters. The first chapter deals with the knowledge needed for getting bliss. The key idea is the openness for all knowledge and not dwelling on negative thoughts and limitations. Each one of us is infinite.

The second chapter deals with the doctrine of bliss which includes the prayer stating why we should live long.

The third chapter deals with the methods of manifesting and sustaining the bliss in us. We need to welcome into our bodies the various cosmic psychological powers such as Vishnu, Rudra-Shiva, Durga and Agni, the spiritual Sun and the creator Savitr. This section has many popular mantras such as the Gayatri mantra, Tryambaka mantra for Shiva-Rudra, the morning mantras for both the spiritual and physical Sun.

Finally chapter 4 indicates some preparations needed for the manifestation of bliss. It includes the mantras for the purification of our mental apparatus using the divine energies called as waters.

We give the relevant mantras from the Rig Veda with their Roman (English) transliteration and the explanation of their meanings. Contemplation of these mantras with faith and their chanting will lead to the development of the associated psychological powers.

Our book has two groups of readers; the first group has those readers who have very little knowledge of Devanagari script and Sanskrit, but are still very interested in understanding the meaning of mantra. Readers who have some knowledge of Sanskrit and Devanagari are in the second category. To satisfy both groups, we have shifted the Devanagari text of the mantra and its Roman transliteration as footnotes in the same page or the next page.

We are also aware that our readers do not like the summary translation of a mantra in one long sentence. What we have done is to divide each Rig Veda mantra, into 3 or 4 parts, and display the translations of these parts separately; the order of the parts is guided by the readability of English language. Since each phrase is a translation of three or 4 words, the transparency and the fidelity of the translation to the original text is clear.
