Book Description
Moin Ahsan Jazbi (1912-2005) appeared on the Urdu literary scene with his distinctive voice in the first half of the 20th century. With his vigorous and inspired creative urge and assertion for creative freedom, he explored new directions for him, drew upon classical traditions and developed a keen insight into the strength and weakness of romanticism. He imparted a fresh mellowness and new dimensions to the Urdu ghazal and nazm. With his typical freshness of thought, remarkable resilience, gritty realism, poise and restraint, he endeavored hard for the evolution of age-old tradition of poetry. Marked by the multilayeredness of meanings, spontaneity and simplicity of expression, austerity and sincerity of sentiments, his poetry is also striking for its masterful symbolism, imagery, artistic ingenuity and mellifluousness. He has to his credit three collections of poems - Farozan (1943), Sukhn-e Mukhtasar (1960) and Gudaz-e Shab (1985). Though he had compiled his Kulliyat in his lifetime, it was published posthumously by Sahitya Akademi in 2006.
Mushtaque Sadaf, the author of this monograph, is a well-known poet, critic and journalist. He has authored more than a dozen books. Well received among them are Urdu ki Khawateen Fiction Nigar, Jazbi Shanasi, Urdu Sahafat: Zaban, Tareekh aur Tanazur and Adabi Theory: Sheriyat aur Gopi Chand Narag. He is presently teaching Urdu at Aligarh Muslim University.
