Book Description

Introduction

Pradnyachakshu Gulabrao Maharaj was Gulab Gundoji Mohod from Madhan in Vidarbha, loss of eyesight at age of just nine months, living in a village, absence of formal education and a life of meagre thirty four years!

The Dnyanyajnya performed by Shri Gulabrao Maharaj in the form of the treatises he wrote is simply unparalleled when we consider the completely adverse circumstances under which he lived. He used to call himself the daughter of saint Dnyaneshwar and wife of Bhagwan Shri Krishna, as he held an attitude of Madhurya Bhakti towards Shri Krishna.

1) He founded – Shri Dnyaneshwara Madhuradvaita Sampradaya. It is Natha Sampradaya and a branch of Varkari sect by the virtue of its system of Upasana.

2) He organised the Bhakti Shastra in a new form by co-ordinating in a scientific logically deductive as well as inductive manner the Advaita Vedanta of Shrimat Shankaracharya and the post enlightenment Paraa Bhakti of the saints.

3) The Saguna Vigraha of God not being Mithya (false) is Satchidaanana Ghana Shuddha (pure), Brahma Swaroopa. It is destroyed not even by knowledge. He contributed a refreshingly novel conceptualisation of the notion of Bhakti, the Anadhyasta Vivarata to the Advaita propounded by the Shri Shankaracharya.

The Aryans are not a race, they did not come to India from without, the only meaning of the word Aryan is a well cultured human being. Before three thousand years the Aryan culture was widely spread in the entire world. Gulabrao Maharaj once again established this ancient historical truth adducing innumerable proofs.

He contributed invaluably by writing sutras, Bhashya (commentary), as well as chaptered treatises, such manifold literature in diverse styles about, Bhakti, Vedanta, Sankhya, Yoga, Nyaya, Ayurveda, Sangeet(Music), literature, drama, dictionary, grammar, sports scripts of languages etc.

All his writings have a frame of hard logic and include scientific organization, coordinated with support from the Vedas, the Puranas, the Ramayana, the Mahabharata,

The Smruti etc., created by the ancient sagas. This great cardinal characteristic found in his writings is mostly conspicuous by its absence in the modern times. So as to reduce the possibility of increase in the mutual hatred amongst all the religions and the different constituents of the Hindu society, he laid before every one a powerful fundamental notion of coordination of all the religions. He gave a very effective weapon, in the form of coordination to the intelligentsia to finally bury the feelings of mutual hatred such as Arya-Anarya, Arya-Dasyu, Arya-Dravid, Brahmin-Non-Brahmin, North-South, and the discontent arising thereof.

“Support from the Vedas, the Puraana(S), the Ramayana, the Mahabharata, the Shruti(S), the Smruti(S) etc., created by the ancient sages. This great cardinal characteristic found in his writings is mostly conspicuous by its absence in modern times.”

The extent of his literature, replete with such invaluable conceptualizations is quite huge. Treatises 133, letters and critiques 199, Abhanga 1000, number of Ovis (couplets) being 23000, comprise about 6000 pages. These contributions are in Sanskrit, Marathi, Hindi, Vraja-Bhasha and Warhadi etc. languages. The quality of the literature from even the perspective of literati is becoming of the daughter of Saint Dnyaneshwara.

Careful consideration of the fundamental intellectual contribution (by a person who became sightless at the age of nine months and lived a very brief life of 34 years) encompassing all these branches of knowledge surely brings forth the memories of those who contributed invaluably in their very brief lives, Poojyapad Shri Adi-Shankaracharya and Shri Duyaneshwar Maharaj and awakens to the continuity of the flow in India of all encompassing tradition of knowledge commencing with Maharshi Bhagwan Vyas.
