Book Description

About the Author
T.K. Padmini has been one of the most influential artists in the history of modern art in Kerala. Her paintings are subtle subversions of patriarchy and they silently celebrate women'sexperiences.

Born in 1940, Padmini took her diploma in painting from Madras School of Arts in 1965, studying under the internationally renowned artist, K.C.S. Paniker, who was then the principal of the institution. Her spell of happy married life with K. Damodaran, himself a reputed artist, was, however, cut short by her tragic and premature death in 1969.

Within the short span of an intensely creative life of just twenty nine years, she has left behind a body of astonishing works that are sufficient to establish her as one of the foremost women painters in the history of modern Indian art. They bear testimony to her remarkable insight into feminine psyche, and also to a unique lyrical style capable of capturing the nuances of such an experience.

Kerala Lalithakala Akademi is proud to present the works of such a seminal artist as a homage to her inspiring memory.
