About the Author
Notwithstanding his background career in Indian Border Security Force, his genuine interest in historical research studies with special reference to the veterans of World Wars brings out his salutary appraisal of the gallant heroes who sacrificed their lives fighting at various war-fronts across the global horizons.

On donning the uniform as Inspector after training at the BSF Academy, SS Aulakh fought in 1965 and 1971 wars in Kashmir.

Not oblivious to his roots, he has been genuinely devoted towards making improvements in his village Tapiala (Amritsar) by establishing Sports Club for the young and, in addition, undertaking renovation of the buildings of School and Gurdwara Sahib. He visits his village almost every year to attend to meeting essential needs of the deserving people for which he hesitates little in making liberal contribution in form of money and time.

It is under such a spirit of dedication to the warrior-spirit that he has attempted to bring out this Book to commemorate the centennial year of WW-1 in 2014.

Introduction
Basically the book is a humble attempt to locate and trace history of Cavalry through the Ages: the gallantry of the Sikhs and Sikh Regiments particularly in WW-I; birth of Sikhism and its struggle against social and political oppressions. The role of Sikhs has a special significance which ultimately resulted in establishment of the Sikh empire under Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the Sikh Emperor, popularly known as Sher-e-Punjab. All this was virtually a combination of the onset of the saint-soldiership spirit, inspired and initiated by Guru Hargobind Ji, the sixth Master, after the martyrdom of Guru Arjun Dev Jee in 1606. But the real steel got ignited among Sikhs by virtue of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Jee on the political arena of India.

Guru Gobind Singh was the first Khalsa General (saint & soldier) who infused a spirit of service and sacrifice among his followers for the right cause and justice. Narration of the battle of Chamkaur highlights the martial spirit of Sikhs. His disciple Banda Singh Bahadur initiated an aggressive campaign against the infidel tyrants and wrong-doers. His first target was Subedar Wazir Khan, the executor of the two sons (aged seven and nine years) of Guru Gobind Singh. As the second Khalsa General, Banda Singh Bahadur established the first Khalsa Rule in India.
