Book Description

About the Book

Rasashastra Bhaishajyakalpana is a very vast subject which according to present syllabus a student has to study in one year. Recently many new points from modern Pharmacology have been included in the syllabus, however 'weightage' carried by these points are not specifically mentioned. This nesseciates conceptual understanding of such points. The Author has tried to explain these points from this angle. The Author is a very experienced teacher and naturally this fact reflects in the book. We strongly hope that student community will be benefitted from this book Publishers.

From the Author's Desk

My first book in English, namely Rasasastra was published about six-seven years back. It was a joint venture with Dr. Prakash Paranjpe who had already few books in English to his credit. In fact he was the person who insisted me to write in English. Though he was not a teacher by profession he had a knack of writing in English. Before that I had four books written in Marathi on the subject Rasasastra Bhaisajya Kalpana, but Dr. Prakash compelled me to write in English and so eventually the book Rasasastra was published.

Thereafter it was natural that a book on Bhaisajya Kalpana should follow. Infact we planned it also but alas! Unfortunately and suddenly Dr. Prakash left us for heavenly abode unexpectedly. That was a big jolt to our plans. My enthusiasm about writing book on Bhaisajya Kalpana receded. Afterwards there were 'n' number of obstacles.

About a year back I came across present publisher who requested me for some script which he intended to publish. On spur of moment I assured him and started working on this book.

Today I am a very satisfied person who has completed a task which was for various reasons, delayed.

According to syllabus of II BAMS set by central council of Indian Medicine Bhaisajya Kalpana is very important subject and is included in Rasasastra Bhaisajya Kalpana. Students have to study and got through two theory papers of hundred marks each and Bhaisajya kalpana is covered under paper II. The syllabus is very vast and at many points difficult to interpret. While writing this book almost every point from the syllabus has been covered. Special stress had been given so as to understand the concept and its practical utility. In doing so some less important details might have been missed or deliberately avoided. But I am sure, once the concept is clear in the minds of student, they can learn about such points themselves.

Everybody is aware of the fact that the references of the subject are scattered in classics of Ayurveda and are written in Sanskrta. In Sanskrta language there is very much importance to correct pronunciation. For this soul purpose Sanskrta words are written in Roman transliterature form. Students should try for correct pronunciations of the Sanskrta words.

There are many people who have helped me in writing this book. I myself was a teacher or Rasasastra Bhaisajya kalpana since 1973 in Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Pune 411011. I worked as head of department during the period when actual work on this book was actively going on. I must acknowledge the help rendered to me by Dr. Mrs. Indira Ujagare, Dr. Mrs. Yogini Patil & Dr. Mrs. Vinaya Dixit, all on staff of department. Very often I used to discuss with them about some ambiguous points, used to ask them to find various references or even used to ask them some difficulties! They all have helped me readily for this work. I am really thankful to the Authorities of Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya who had extend their full co-operation for me.

I thank the publishers of this book for believing in me and encouraging me repeatedly to work for this project.

I am sure that students of II BAMS and students for M.D. also, will be benefited by using this book.

May Lord Dhanvantari shower blessing upon you for ever!
