Foreword

Acupressure and Acupuncture is a national therapy of self treatment and its treatment is easy, less expensive and useful. This treatment does not have any major side effects. It is possible to treat each and every disease by acupressure and acupuncture. India is a poor and developing country. One third population that means around 34 crores of the people in the country are leading their lives below poverty line. They are cursed to face problems in the country are leading their lives below poverty line. They are cursed to face problems without treatment, once they are sick. The next one third population of the country is of middle class earners. The budget of the middle class family gets disturbed because of the arrival of the illness in the family. In all this, acupressure and acupuncture treatment can play a very important role in providing the health to everyone.

In acupressure, treatment is to be given on few specific points through pressure. These points are called Acupoints. When on the same points treatment is done through needles, it is called as Acupuncture. When on these points treatment is done with methi seeds or any other type of seed, then it is Seed Therapy. When the treatment is done by putting small magnets on these points, it is called as Magnet Therapy. And if the treatment is given by colors on the same points, it is called as Color Therapy. Type of treatment can vary but the acupoints are same.

Acupressure and Acupuncture treatment system was born in ancient India, brought up in China and got popularity in western world. In India, where Indian women put Bindi, they fill sindoor, where piercing of nose and ear are done, where they wear toe rings and bangles etc, they all are very specific points of Acupressure and Acupuncture. The son of the driver of an elephant (Mahavat) controls the huge elephant with the goad by pressing various acupoints of the elephant.

In China, for past five thousand years treatment is being given by acupressure and acupuncture system successfully. Scholars and learners of acupuncture had written various research books in different periods. These research books are the base for the modern acupuncture system. In China, 2500 years back there was a king named Huang Di. King Huang Di was a great scholar of acupuncture. King used to discuss acupuncture with the court physician Bo. Those discussions got as popular in China as conversation between Akbar and Birbal in India. King Huang Di got popular in China as Yellow Emperor and the dialogues of court physician Bo had been codified in China. The name of the book is Yellow Emperor Classics. This book is just like Gita or Ramayana for acupuncture learners. In the same manner over a period of time different scholars of acupuncture has written various books on their experiences.

In India Charak, Sushrut, Atreya etc. had given important information’s on Ayurvedic Acupuncture. In Vedas also acupuncture is very well described. In ayurveda these acupoints are known as Vital points. Meridians are known as Nerves. Acupressure Research Training and Treatment Sansthan, Allahabad is doing a specific research on Ayurvedic Acupuncture. The idea is a publish these researches in the form of various books. Acupressure Research Training and Treatment Sansthan, Allahabad was established on March 28, 1995 for a good cause to give free treatment by acupressure and acupuncture to public at large. Second motive of the santhan is to train this treatment therapy to more and more people around the country so they can treat themselves, their family and society at large. The third motive of the sansthan is recollect and write this wonderful therapy in easy and natural languages for the benefit of the therapist of this therapy.

"A Treatise on Advance Acupressure/Acupuncture-Part I" is the first link of that chain. This book is written for the benefit and knowledge of those acupuncture therapists, who have already learned the basics of acupressure. This is program to publish books on detailed analysis of Chinese Acupuncture in 24 volumes. This book is the first volume that. It is in the planning to publish 2-2 parts every year. This is our belief that this chain of "A Treatise on Advance Acupressure/Acupuncture-Part I" would be very beneficial for all acupuncture therapists.

In 1950, in China, Chairman Mao had trained millions of people in acupuncture therapy and sent them to different villages of China with acupuncture kits. Those doctors of acupuncture did not have even shoes to wear. In western countries, people used to call them 'Bare Footed Doctors'. In 1962, American president visited to China. Along with the Supreme President, one journalist also went. He complained for severe pain of appendicitis in abdomen. Doctors of president asked him for the immediate operation. On the suggestion of Chinese Prime Minister, acupuncture treatment had been given to the journalist. With the insertion of first needle in the right leg at St 361/2 point, the pain of appendicitis got relieved amazingly. President Nixon got impressed of all this. Lady Nixon learned detailed information about acupuncture in the rest of three days of visit. At the time of leaving for America, President Nixon took few scholars to his country. After that gradually the knowledge of acupuncture spread all over the western countries. Books on acupuncture was written in English, Special literature on acupuncture started coming to India from western countries. Thousands of people from the entire country learned acupressure and acupuncture. They started treating patients and patients were also getting relief from that.

Acupressure Research Training and Treatment Sansthan, Allahabad has got the proud privilege of active and useful participation in the treatment and research of this therapy. Acupressure and Acupuncture treatment will be No. 1 treatment system in India in coming years. This is our belief that the publications of the sansthan will be incredible in this cause.
