Book Description
A Note:
The President of India inaugurated the work on the Yoga Cyclopaedia in ten volumes at The Yoga Institute Santacruz in connection with its 70th year Foundation Day. The need for such a comprehensive work on Yoga becomes imperative with the growing popularity of the subject in the East and the West. Besides academic information, knowledge on traditional skills, modern studies in allied areas, authentic interpretetion by living Yoga teachers etc. -All this material needs to be scrutinised, selected and integrated into one volume for this purpose.
The touchstone to test the available material in Yoga remains the classical work-Patanjali's Yoga Sutra. Reference to the Yoga Sutra and Vyasa Bhasya are therefore provided wherever available; many lesser works are consulted but as a rule detailed references are not provided. Shri Yogendraji's work on Asanas viz. Yoga Asanas Simplified, has been extensively used. Smt. Sita Devi's Yoga Physical Education has been also utilised.
