About the Book
About two millenniums ago Jalandhar/Jullundur was an independent country. A large part of the present day Pakistan (up to Multan), most of the present Himanchal and area up to Satluj River was a part of this country. It finds mention in various mythical, religious and historical sources.

This book presents valuable history of the 2500 years of ancient Jalandhar. Besides, it gives the hitherto unknown facts about various ancient towns and villages of Jalandhar district.

It also has more than 90 coloured photographs of centuries old buildings and monuments, which may not survive for another decade unless they are properly and carefully protected.

This book is also a treasure of more than 30 precious maps of the Punjab from the years 1000 to 2004. One can find details of each and every village of Jalandhar district in these maps. Besides, it is also a ready-reference of each and every village of the district, with each village's area in hectares, its population (1991 and 2001 census) as well as each village's location, nearest post office, nearest railway station, nearest main road, development block etc of each village.

About the Author
Dr. Harjinder Singh Dilgeer is not simply a scholar, he is an institution Dr. Dilgeer has contributed more than 40 books to the studies of Sikhism and Punjab He is known as an authority in various fields of the Sikh studies, and, it is not possible to find any serious work of Sikh history or philosophy without quotations from his works, Dr Dilgeer is known for walking through unknown paths of scholarship and research. He was the first to write about the concept and the history of Akal Takht Sahib, the Sikh Culture, Shiromani Akali Dal, history of Anandpur Sahib, Keeratpur Sahib etc.

"The Sikh Reference Book is his magnum opus. Since Bhai Kahan Singh Nabha, no single pen has produced an encyclopedia without anyone else's support. He has kept up this sumptuousness by producing Sikh Encyclopedia CD Rom, another gem from his treasure of knowledge. His latest work Encyclopedia of Jalandhar proves that he is not going to stop till his last breath. According to a great Sikh scholar, it is very rare to find someone who has depth in both history and philosophy, and, he proudly said, 'Dr Dilgeer has both'. According to another scholar, 'Dr Dilgeer's writings have chivalrous boldness, spiritual fragrance, saint's scholarship and seer's humility'.

Dr Dilgeer was honoured by several institutions and organisations and was presented Shan-l-Punjab award in 1995 and Giani Garja Singh Award in 2004. Dr Dilgeer is former Professor of Sikh Studies (Canada), former Director of Sikh History Research Board (SGPC). He is International Director of Guru Nanak Institute of Sikh Studies and President World Sikh Writers' Conference.
