About the Author
Himanshi Shelat (b.1947) is a significant name in the post-modern Gujarati short story. After having done a doctorate Naipaul, she served as a Professor of English from 1968 to 1994 at which she concentrated on her constructive work for the social uplift. Platform Number Chaar, the memories of her work among the urchins loitering and living at Surat railway station, won her prestigious Nanjangudu Theerumalamba Award among others.

Frozen Whites in a Dark Alley and other Stories, published in 1992, was honoured with Sahitya Akademi Award in 1996. She has received an award from Gujarati Sahitya Parishad as well as several other literary honors.
