About The Book

Kesava Dev (1904-83), primarily a socialist and a realist, was a novelist, short story writer, playwright, critic and social reformer. Identified himself with the lower strata of society, he held revolutionary ideas. In his writings, he poignantly depicted the struggle of the weaker sections for their existence. Some of his novels tended to be tracts on social liberty. His awareness of the modern human situations and his deep sense of the need for social change, deserve special mention. His novel Ayalkar which won the Akademi award, gives a masterly social analysis and portrays a number of noteworthy characters. He was the President of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi for some time.

About the Author

Pratibha Ray is a well-known short story writer and novelist in Oriya. Her publications include eighteen novels, eighteen collections of short stories, one trave logue, nine books for children and ten for neo-literates. She has received a number of awards including the Orissa Sahitya Akademi, the Sarala, and the Katha. She is presently Reader in Education at a college in Orissa.
