R. Shanmugasundaram (1917-1977) is a pioneer in writing regional novels in Tamil. His novel 'Nagammal' is considered unique in this respect. He has introduced the rural life of the Kongu region of Tamil Nadu with its natural colours and peculiar language style in his novels. This work speaks about the everlasting contribution of R. Shanmugasundaram to Tamil fiction.
Sirpi Balasubramaniam, the author of this work is known for his immense contribution to Modern Tamil Poetry. He is also a literary critic and translator. He is the recipient of two Sahitya Akademi Awards, one for his poetry collection 'Oru Gramathu Nadhi' and another for his translation 'Agnisakshi' from Malayalam into Tamil.
