A Volume honouring late Dr. C. R. Srinivasan is long due. At long last we could bring out this one in his honour. Dr. CRS as he is affectionately called was an unassuming gentleman. A good academic and an able administrator, he rendered yeomen service to the cause of south Indian epigraphy. His friends and admirers wanted to honour this savant's memory with a festschrift and this is the resultant Volume.
Though our efforts are modest, the articles contributed by his friends and admirers for this Volume definitely unfold new dimensions of Indology. Archaeology. Art, Architecture and History We profusely thank all the contributors. The editors of this Volume spared no pains in bringing out this Volume and in particular we thank Dr. K. V. Ramesh, for his guidance and help in more than one way. As fate would have it, some of the scholars associated with this Volume viz., Shri K. G. Krishnan, Dr. S. Subramonia Iyer, Prof. Ajay Mitra Shastri, Dr. H.R. Raghunath Bhat and Dr. N. Havalaiah have passed away without seeing this Volume in full form. May their soul's rest in peace.
As far as possible, the papers included in this Volume have been arranged in chronological order. We crave the indulgence of the readers if they come across any mistakes.
We thank Shri Srinivasa Rao, Kamalapur for his unstinting help in correcting the proofs. We thank Mr. G. Thirumoorthy for providing us with photo graphs for the cover page from his collections and Raman Chaudhary, A-One Graphics, Delhi, for composing the volume is neat and tidy manner.
