Now we are proud to launch the Kannada translations of Ettuttokai and Pattuppattu, ably done by a select band of scholars led by Thiru. R. Akanānūru, also known as Netuntokai is one of the eight anthologies (Ettuttokai), consisting of 400 verses, the length of them varying from 13 to 31 lines. It is said that this collection was made by one Uruttiracanman, son of Uppüri Kilar, at the instance of Pantiyan Ukkirapperuvajuti, who was himself a poet. The poems of this collection give equal importance to all the three aspects of the akam genre known as mutal poruļ, karupporul and uripporul.
