The present book deals in detail with the concepts of Riti and Guna. The author has traced the concepts of Guna ana'RTti from Bharata to Panditraj Jagannatha. The author, Dr. P.C. Lahari has been very methodical and scientific in his treatment and possesses a deeper understanding of the subject.
The present monograph is divided in eight chapters illustrating and elaborting the ideas of different Acharyas on Guna & Riti from earliest period to 18th cent. A.D. Though written long back but it is still afiesh for both, the students and the scholors of Indian poetics.
Yoga is one of the most perfect Indian Sciences based mainly on the principles of mind-Psychology and Physiology. It provides an elaborate study of human mind, its latent powers, the methods of its control and its spiritual enlightenment.
It lays down the procedures for gradual upliftment of man to the ultimate stage of Samadhi and explains all human, sub-human and super-human existences in all their aspects. Patanjali, the author of the famous Yagasiltra was the first to systematize the practices of Yoga discipline. It is described as Aimftgayoga or yoga having eight accessories i.e. yama, niyama, asana, pratayama, pratyahara, dharand, ahydna and samddhi. The book has been divided into four chapters : (i) Concentration or Samddhi, (ii) Means of attainment or Sadhana, (iii) Supernormal powers or Vthhtai and (iv) Isolation or Kaivalya. The book comprises of the English rendering of Maniprabha commentary of Ramanand Sarasvati which co mmands a significant position in the field of Yoga school The learned commentator explains elaborately the standpoints of Patafijali as expressed in his Yogasutra. Both in the analysis of the subject matter of the discipline and the method of its treat-ment, Ramanand Sarasvati has displayed thoroughness and scholarship. He has examined critically the hypotheses of adversaries. His style of presentation is logical and appealing.
