Foreword The Rev. Dr. P. Solomon Raj, born 21 February, 1921, departed this life on 28 December, 2019. My wife June and I remember Dr. Solomon Raj as a scholar and artist as well as a friend and colleague to whom we owe a debt of gratitude. His book, A Christian Folk-Religion in India: A Study of the Small Church Movement in Andhra Pradesh, with a Special Reference to the Bible Mission of M. Devadas, published in 1986 by Peter Lang in Germany, based on Solomon Raj's doctoral thesis under Walter Hollenweger at Birmingham University in UK, was his magnum opus, the first of its kind, to be followed by a spate of articles, books, papers, and theses by developing scholars in a new academic field.
