About the Author
Dr. Mahendra Kumar Upadhyay obtained his M.A. (Ancient History) and D.Phil. (2001) from Allahabad University. His field of interest is Religion and Philosophy. He has several research papers to his credit. He has attended several Seminars and Conferences at the State and national level. His other works are 'Prachin Bhartiya Rajya aur Dharam' and 'Bhartiya Kala aur Sthapatya'.

Presently, he is Assistant Professor in the Department of History, Culture and Archaeology at J.R.H. University, Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh.

Preface
"Chitrakoot An Archaeo-Religious Study" is a deep study of Chitrakoot from archaeo-religious aspects. By this research project, I have made my best effort to highlight the personality and historicity of Chitrakoot.

The study consists the following chapters:

iv. Vaishnavism in Chitrakoot.

V. Temples, Ghats and holy places of Chitrakoot.

vi. Conclusion

In Chapter (1) an attempt has been made to throw light on the geographical structure including location, boundaries, area, tehsils, demography, hills, rivers, soils, agriculture, flora, fauna and minerals of Chitrakoot.

In Chapter (II) focus has been laid on the antiquity and historicity of Chitrakoot in the light of literary, archaeo and foreign accounts.

In Chapter (III) the archaeological characteristics of the sites such as Deokali, Siddhpur, Lalapur and Anchawara have been highlighted. In Chapter (IV) an effort has been made to study the religious features of Vaishnavism.
