Preface
The vast field of Oriental Studies abounds in ample literature on the rise and fulfillment of Dharmasastra. It is a fact that the most fundamental and scholarly work in this area has been done by M.M. Dr. P.V Kane in his History of Dharmasastra consisting of five volumes (eight parts) which is a rare blend of scholarship, research and exhaustive and intensive study. This has also been an acknowledged and universally accepted source of reference for scholars under taking higher studies and research in this field. But for the common man it is quite difficult to explore the essence from such voluminous work.

The Common reader sometimes becomes impatient in reaching the points he searches in such work. Hence the necessity of writing history of Dharmasastra in a Nutshell is felt at different circles to introduce the subject to the common man especially the beginners.

The present work is a humble attempt to cater to the needs of the beginners and the common readers as well who love to acquire basic knowledge about the History of Dharmasastra. Needless to say that such an attempt is not intended for any scholastic exhibition or exposition of the writer who has tried his best to make things as simple and brief as possible. His labor will bear fruit if the readers are attracted to have a glance of it.
