Book Description

About the Book
The karokaram or the silk route which connects Kashmir with Central Asia had been a favorite highway of traders who used to bring all sorts of merchandise to the valley from the times immemorial. The book is based on the notes and the letters the author wrote while starting from Sri nagar to the highest peak. The expedition was this: Starting from Srinagar, the expedition was to go via Skardu to Askole, and there in the first instance attempt the ascent of the peak Mungo Gusor, the central position of which makes it particularly valuable as a point of view for topographical purposes. After this we were to ascend the Baltoro Glacier, attempting thence to ascend peaks, particularly K2, and to explore passes. We were then to pay a short visit to the Punmah Glacier, and thereafter attempt to reach the top of the Zong La, the old pass formerly used as a route between Hunza and Nagyr and Skardu by native tribesmen. We were then to descend for some distance down the great Hispar Glacier, and then turn South and come over the Nushik La to Arandu.
