Book Description

Preface

Om the unique truth occupies a special place in the comity of books of all time. It is a spontaneous expression of jnana recollected in tranquility a product of a nista of H.H. Swami Jagadeeswarananda. Out of the meditation of Brahma emerged the creation (Jagat). So too out of the through research of Vedanta done by Swami Jagadeeswarananda came this holy book. It is a bible of all time. In one sweep this swami has brought out the essence of Advaita Vedanta represented by the Omkara the Pranava - The Spota the unique Pratika the sound symbol which is a single syllable. This sound symbol speaks volumes. This sound transcends all words of languages. This sound is there in all languages and hence it is universal.

Like a seer who is a mantra drasta intuitively this great sage Jagadeeswaraanda has brought clarity to the world Brahman symbolize by the word Om.

This is a book born of love and not of labor. Love here is the Paramananda.

The book speaks for itself and needs no introduction.

Introduction

I bow to thee the great teacher Swami Suvijnananandaji the embodiment of kindness and also the giver of happiness. I your colleague Jagadeeswarananda an submitting this explanatory note on Om with utmost respect and which has been done to the best of my ability.

I here by venture into a great task of explicating Omkara wherever it appears in the then important Upanishads.

Though there are many notes on Omkara unfortunately there is no suitable write up in simple style for the benefit of the students of Vedanta.

For the easy understanding of the meaning and significance of Om for the students of Vedanta and the seekers after Truth this is taken up.

Prajaapati the creator after (the great task of) creation in order to find out the quintessence of all his creation churned all the Devas (Angels) and all the Scriptures and it is told that Omkaara Manifested as a result of this churning.

In the Upanishad Chaandogya, second chapter in the twenty third section the following passage appears, “As a result of deep contemplation the three letters bhurbhuvaswa emerged. Further on deeper contemplation it was evident. Further on deeper contemplation it was evident the Omkaara is really the essence of everything and holds all the varied creation in unity just like the central rib of a leaf holding all the contents and shape of the leaf in tact”.

In the Upanishad Chaandogya itself there are other references on Omkaara. In other Upanishads also Omkara appears in several places.

The essence of them in detail is dealt with in this booklet.
