Reflections (A Collection of Critical Essays)

About the Author Dr. Basavaraj P. Donur is a lecturer in English at Karnataka Arts College, Dharwad. He got his first Ph.D. from Kannada Vishwa Vidyalaya, Hampi, in 2000 for his thesis Kannada Nataka Mattu Vastavate under Prof. K. D. Kurtkoti's guidance. He is now working on The Poetry of G. M. Hopkins and Basavanna - A Comparative Study for his second Ph.D. in English.

A noted critic, short story writer and playwright (in Kannada), Dr. Donur has to his credit Rangapravesha, Seelu Notagalu, Tama and Mugila Mareya Minchu besides publishing some 30 articles in academic journals and magazines.

Dr. Donur's essays cover a wide spectrum. The focus, however, is on drama and theatre. The play is the thing wherein he would catch the conscience of the very kings in creative writing.

Dr. Donur compels one to reflect. But, instead of adding my own reflections to Prof. Donur's, I would rather indicate, first, what it is that he has attempted in these ten pieces in two parts, the first part on topics rather general and the second on drama and theatre in particular. I shall, then, touch upon a few of its excellences that go to make Reflections truly a promising. start for its author.
