Sri Mahalakshmi Suprabhata Stuti and Other Prayers to Goddess Mahalakshmi

Foreword The Mahalakshmi Temple in Besant Nagar on the sea-shore near Adyar in Madras (Chennai metropolis) stands as a testimony to the matchless creative power of Srimad U Ve. (Ubaya Vedanta i.e. master of both Tamil and Sanskrit Vedas ; i.e. the Vedas and Nalayira Divya Prabandam in Tamil considered the Tamil Vedas by Vaishnavas); Vidwanmani (gem among scholars) Mukkur Srinivasa Varadacharya Swami. The wonderful Sanctum-Sanctorum of Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi is comparable to that of Lord Venkateswara of Tirumala in Tirupati. I have been overjoyed to see the composing of Sri Mahalakshmi Suprabhatam, Prapatti and Mangalam prayers in poetic verses on the model of the prayers composed in praise of the Lord Venkateswara of Tirumala in Tirupati to enable the devotees who so desire to chant them.

Introduction The walking God who dwells throughout the world (literal: wishes to dwell), His Holiness Sri Kanchi Kamakriti Peethadhipati Chandrasekharendra Sarasvati Swami (i.e., the 68" pontiff of the Kamakoti Peethah at Kancheepuram) gave his blessings for the construction of the Mahalakshmi and Mahavishnu Temple at Besant Nagar, Adyar, Madras, (Chennai). The temple has eight vimanas (temple towers).

Translator's Note: Kancheepuram is 78 kms. from Chennai. It is the seat of one of the Sankara Mutts established by Adi Sankara, the founder of Advaita philosophy, who is credited with re-establishing Hinduism in India, when it was under severe challenge by Buddhism and Jainism. Adi Sankara (circa 500 BC) must not be confused with Abhinava Sankara, pontiff of the Kanchi Mutt of the 8" Century AD, who also performed many miracles. This is the mistake many 19" Century AD historians have made.
