Book Description

Foreword

It is a matter of very great satisfaction to me that this annotated bibliography of Research in Home Science is being published by the Faculty of Home Science, M. S. University of Baroda. While formulating plans for the development of research in the faculty, one of the major difficulties we faced was the fact that relatively little was known about the kind of research that has been conducted or is going on in the field of Home Science, in the different colleges, universities or institutions in India. In guiding the M.Sc. students in their selec tion of areas for study many of us have felt the need to know what has already been done or is being done in the field in other places. There is little opportunity of exchange of ideas between research workers. We have not yet been able to establish the inter-library loan system and so communication between workers in the same field is limited. Dr. Mattie Pattison, Chairman of the Iowa State University team, working in the Faculty of Home Science at Baroda, and I therefore decided that a compilation of an annotated bibliography of research in Home Science and related fields would be a worthwhile contribution to Home Science Education in India. A research assistant was appointed in 1964 to undertake this study. We had little difficulty in convincing Dr. Helen LeBaron, Dean, College of Home Economics at Iowa State University about the importance of this study and she also appointed a research assistant at Iowa State to locate and abstract researches done in India or using Indian samples and published in Journal outside of India.

Reviewing research is one of the important experiences that a post-graduate student should have. From that point of view also this publication will be of considerable value to students in Home Science Colleges. Since this little booklet will serve as a valuable resource material, it is very important that it is kept up to date. I have great hopes that the President of the All India Home Science Association will take interest in this publication and will take this up as one of the activities of the Association because this project is of a continuing nature and will need to be brought up-to-date at least every 2-3 years. The co-operation from all Home Science Colleges and other institutions conducting research in allied areas has been most gratifying and I am most grateful to all those who responded to our request for imformation. Our research assistant was extended full co-operation and given all the facilities for work wherever she went, for which also I thank everyone. March, 1967.
