About The Book

Healing happens on many levels both gross and subtle. We hold the power to heal our bodies with the foods we eat, heal our thoughts with our contemplative practices. and heal our relationships with awareness and conscious action. Medicine comes through many streams, nourishing the journey we walk to live a balanced and healthy life. In Ancient India, the Rishis or seers of the time recognized the range of remedies that support our human experience, and ultimately our path home, One of the healing modalities found in Ayurveda, the Indian "science of life." is that of "Marma Chikitsa" - therapeutic healing through subtle energy points in the body.

Now the trends in modern medicine is to consider anatomy and physiology as a single subject though such change in syllabus is not yet implemented But most modern books on the subject attempt to combine the subjects and to tune the subject with clinical requirements This book strictly address to the latest first year syllabus of B.A.M.S. degree course envisaged by the C.C.I.M., but also has tried to maintain the relation of Ayurvedic Anatomy with Physiology and clinical studies.

At present, to the best of my knowledge, there is no such book to learn the Ayurvedic Marma portions of anatomy in its pure classical lines. The students will have to search too many books to collect the required information. This book is intented to help the student to obtain relevant Ayurvedic information by providing it ready made. Most of the terms were not met within classical Ayurvedic treatises, especially in pathology and treatment. Hence insisting on Sanskrit terms just doubled the workload of the students without proving them anything. Books written on Ayurvedic Marma in English were mere adoptions of modern anatomy, containing various Ayurvedic material.

This books is too much helpful for not only UG students but also PG students in different subjects and also needful for Ayurvedic Anatomical concepts regarding Marma & Marma massage described in simple language.

Foreword

The periodical concept of Marma is though encapsulated in the Ayurvedic compendiums but the exploration of the applied aspect of this Marma Vijnan is being transmitted in a qualitative perspective by searching the in depth insight in it in the quantum of clinical practice in reality the therapeutics aspect of Marma Vijnan requires profound substantial knowledge of anatomy in respect of its site, related veins, arteries, tendons, etc of the respective Marma so that the theoretical magnum of Marma Vijnan can be well established. At present Marma therapy are being practised by several Ayurvedic physicians conventionally without any appropriate justification as if the pressure is applied on the site of the specific Marma then there is a positive chance of deformities and subsequently may lead to death. But unfortunately emphasizing the site of the specific Marma the pressure is applied on emphasizing. Ayurvedic physicians are regarding it as Marma therapy which is nothing but a wrong therapeutic measures. The significant pressure on the point nearby of the respective Marma if practically applied for the therapeutics as a results of recovery from the desired diseases considering the absolute knowledge of anatomy then the pure perspective will be regarded as applied Marma therapy by which different type of disease can be minimised or mitigated without administration of the drugs and this will be very much cost effective.

In this book the author has tried to his level best to spread the fragrance essence of Marma in an applied aspect with the complete anatomical perspective keeping the scientific entity of Marma intact. His significant writing entitled the essence of Marma will be definitely beneficial to the students, researchers, and the clinical practitioners for the illustrative, elaborative and justified scientific outlook of Marma Vijnan.

Introduction

The human anatomy (Sharira Rachana) is an important for allied health sciences. It is one of the fundamental subject to the health science. The Ayurvedic life science is also based on the human anatomy and physiology (Rachana & Kriya), without the knowledge of Sharira Rachana and Kriya, the physician cannot become perfect in the profession.

As Purusha is the conglomeration of soul, mind and body. These three hold the life processes by maintaining structural and functional dynamism parallely. In real sense, Rachana Sharira is the media either to plan for treatment or to achieve the ultimate aim of life. Hence the fundamental concept of Rachana Sharira has become basic necessity for both physician and surgeons. That too specially in pre-clinical studies.

So the ancient Acharyas like Sushruta, Charaka and Vagbhata were given importance to the knowledge of Rachana Sharira. The Acharya Sushruta was mentioned in the Sharira Sthana of Sushruta Samhita, other Acharyas are also explained about the human anatomy in their Samhitas. The human body dissection was described in Sushruta Samhita.

Even though no descriptive anatomy of organ or structure is available in any Samhita Granthas but our ancient have treated various diseases and performed the surgery perfectly and precisely.

If we gone through the Marma Sharira. These are vital points of the body. They are situated at various regions of the body. If any injury to the Marma points that leads to deformity of the structures, produces the severe pain, loss of movements, and even some times there may be a death. The Marma are still holding the power of anatomists and surgeons in high amount. It seems that Acharyas have described the regional anatomy in relation to the surface anatomy of Marma. Every Marma holds its own clinical importance and significant scientific values, while on research none can ignore this.
