Book Description
In recent times there has been considerable debate concerning the need for breast-feeding of babies both in scientific and non-scientific fora. To some extent, in the modem society young mothers have moved away from breast-feeding and have sought alternate feeding practices. To overcome ensuing disadvantages, several programs have been launched by United Nations to educate young mothers. In this context the work of Dr. (Ms.) Sunita Mishra, Senior Lecturer in Vasanta Kanya Mhavidyalaya an affiliated college of our University assume considerable significance.
This volume contains the results of her work in central Orissa and attempts to correlate feeding practices with the growth of children. Many important parameters have been defined and necessary data was painstakingly collected by interviewing mothers and monitoring children. The vast amount of data at her disposal has been carefully analyzed to develop a scientific perspective of feeding practices and nutritional anthropometry of pre-school children. The work is both commendable and exhaustive.
The volume is bound to be well received by those working in the area of home science and also in allied fields. It should also be desirable reading for young and educated mothers. I have no doubt that this book will be read with interest and used as a reference by future researchers. I wanly congratulate Dr. Sunita Mishra and wish her well.
