Uriya Nalage The Flaming Tongue is a collection of essays by Kirtinath Kurtkoti which has received Sahitya Akademi award for 1995, covers a broad range of subjects from mythology and aesthetics. The author critically re evaluates their inter disciplinary import. For its intensive research, stimulating analysis and extremely rewarding insights Uriya Nalage is a significant attribution to Indian Critical literature.

Drawing from his rich experience as a Professor of English and intimacy with at least five literatures-English, Kannada, Sanskrit, Marathi and Gujarati-he made incisive analysis of what has now come to be known as ‘cultural studies’-he subjected even the most apparent to its deep cultural roots and unearthed astonishing truths. He wrote a series of articles for a leading Newspapers in Kannada and these articles were published in the book form. The first of these titled ‘Uriya Nalage’ won the prestigious Sahitya Akademi award in 1995. This includes articles on the semiotics of performances such as the Yaksha-Gana, the nature of truth, the concrete and the abstract and also discusses certain intriguing texts which are not well known.

He has published 25 books including works of erudite criticism like Navya Kavya Prayoga, Sanskriti Spandana, Kan n ad a Sahitya Sangati and Tradition of Sanskrit Drama (in English) four plays and eight volumes of edited research works. He received the Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award (Twice) and Sahitya Akademi Translation prize (1993) besides the FeIIowship of Ministry of Human Resources (1994), the Govt. of India.

Prof. Krishna Murthy Chandar has published short stories, criticism and plays. He was working as Professor of English at Mysore University and he currently teaching English in Garyounis University, Libya.
