Book Description

Director's Note

We are pleased to place this small monograph entitled "Glimpse into Kautilya's Arthashastra" by Prof. P. Sri Ramachandrudu garu in the hands of learned readers. The idea to bring out the introduction written by Prof. P. Sri Ramachandrudu to his book on Arthashastra in a booklet form was given by Sri T.Hanuman Chaudhary Ji, while planning to organize a seminar on Arthashastra to commemorate centenary year celebrations of Arthashastra publication. When we approached Mahamahopadhyaya Prof. P. Sri Ramachandrudu garu and Prof P. Shashirekha garu with this proposal, that has been happily accepted by them to get the Telugu write up into Englisht and publish the same along with Telugu original for the benefit of the readers. The translation work was entrusted to Smt. K. Aruna Vyas, who has command not only on both the languages, but also on the subject. She has kindly accepted our request and completed the work within the shortest period possible. On my personal request, the editorial responsibility was taken by Prof. P. Shashirekha, Head, Dept. of Sanskrit, OU and an eminent scholar on Arthashastra. Madam worked around the clock for a week for this book. Without her painstaking efforts, this would not have been possible. My sincere gratitude to all these elderly scholars for their kind support in materializing this project.
I would like to place on the records that the one day National Seminar was organized on Arthashastra to commemorate the centenary celebrations of First Publication in 1909 in Mysore, on 30 Jan 2010 in Hyd. Prajna Bharati, Hyd along with FAPCII joined their hands in this organization. Support and guidance extended by Dr. T.Hanuman Choudhariji, Chairman, Prajna Bharati, was marvelous. I thank him for his encouragement. I thank Dr. K. Varalakshmi, Sri B. S. Sharma, and Sri Nagaraj Rao for their work in the background of this seminar.
I hope that the present publication will be welcome by the readers. I once again thank the authors of the book for giving an opportunity to Sanskrit Academy to publish this book. .
