This book is about the origin, History and Culture of Gujjars. The life of Gujjars, who live Nomadic life today reflected in this book. A brief introduction of states of Northern India once ruled by Gujjars is also included in this book.
The State of Jammu and Kashmir was the advent of Gurjars during 9th and 10th century A.D. This was the period when Islam was spreading in northern India. According to historians there are 4 major reasons for settling of Gujjars in Jammu and Kashmir.
Dr. Rahi is the Chief Editor of the Gojri wing of the State Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. Dr. Javaid Rahi is a renowned researcher, and poet of Gojri and Urdu languages. He has authored one dozen books in Gojri and Urdu on history, culture and folk lore of Gujjars. Dr Rahi has headed various prestigious research projects including Encyclopedia of Himalayan Gujjars, Folklore Dictionary of Gujjar Tribe, and Hindi-Gojri Dictionary Project.
Dr Rahi has been a member of the jury of Bhasha Samman in Gojri of National Academy of Letters `Sahitya Akademi' New Delhi. He has attended a number of national and international seminars and conferences on tribals. His write-ups are regularly published in reputed newspapers.
