Book Description
Robert Thorp is the first foreigner who sacrificed his life for the Kashmiris. He had come to Kashmir to see the birth place of his mother. He found that the Kashmiris were leading a life of ignorance, slavery and degradation under the alien rule of the Dogra Maharajas. He felt that the British had done great injustice to the Kashmiris by selling them to Gulab Dogra of Jammu. He is the first Britisher to have openly admitted:
"For purpose entirely selfish, we deliberately sold millions of human beings into the absolute power of one of the meanest, most avaricious cruel, and unprincipled of men that ever sat upon a throne."
Prof. F.M Hassnain, an eminent scholar, has published many authoritative works on history and culture of Kashmir. His published works include: British Policy Towards Kashmir, Ladakh-the Moonland; Buddhist Kashmir, Hindu Kashmir; Gilgit the Northern Gate of India; A History of Ladakh (co-authored), and numerous papers on various subjects.
Widely travelled as a visiting Professor of many foreign universities on history, archaeology, anthropology and culture, he is a member of many national and international organizations.
