Book Description
This volume contains 232 Kannada inscriptions that were copied during the years 1950-51, 1951-52 and 1952-53 by the Epigraphy Branch of the Archaeological Survey of India and noticed in its respective Annual Reports. These inscriptions are useful for studying the Political, Cultural, Religious and Socio-economic history of Karnataka. They were copied from the districts of Belgaum, Bellary, Bijapur, Dharwar, Kanara-North, Kanara-South of Karnataka; Anantapur, Hyderabad and Kurnool districts of Andhra Pradesh; and Bombay district of Maharashtra and Madurai and Tiruchinapalli districts of Tamil nadu.
The dynasties represented in this volume are that of the Banas, Rashtrakutas, Chillukyas of Kalyana, Kalachiiris, Yadavas, Hoysalas, Vijayanagara Rulers. There are some inscriptions belonging to feudatory families of Ratters, Kadarnbas of Hangal, Saluvas of Sangitapura and Muslim rulers. Some inscriptions are very interesting for they throw light in elucidating some unknown aspects of details embeded in other records. A sizeable number of miscellaneous inscriptions are also useful in understanding the regional history.
