Book Description

FOREWORD
We are glad to inform the learned that we are going to publish the 3rd vol of the Tantrapradipa, containing the first section of the eighth chapter but mortified at the sad demise of Prof. Dileep Kumar Kanjilal on 14'h November 2017. What can be done, we have to obey the orders of the Almighty. What is our consolation is that he could see the printed copies of the previous two volumes of the Tantrapradipa, before leaving us. The first volume contained the 4th section of the 8th chapter and the second volume the 3rd section of the 71b chapter. We had wished to bring out the sections of the Tantrapradipa one by one according to the availability of the manuscripts. We are trying our best towards our aim. As we could not collect the whole manuscripts it a time so we could not be able to publish all the sections of the commentary in a serial order of the Astadhyayi.

In 2016 we published the first volume of the commentary and presented to respected Prof. Sultan Ahmed, Director of the Varendra Research Museum, Rajshahi, Bangladesh. He was too glad and inspired me to publish the rest portion of it. I felt proud when he phoned me and invited me to his country Bangladesh. Getting his inspiration we got strength and hope to get the rest portion of the manuscripts of the Tantrapradipa.

Introduction
The Tantrapraripa of Maitreya Raksita (11-12 A.D.) is a well-known commentary on Sanskrit grammar in the Paninian system. It is the commentary on the Nyasa of Jinendrabnuddhi on the Kasika on the Astadhyayi of Panini. The present printed volume is on the sutras of the first section of the 8th chapter of the As4Adhydy1". Details on Maitreya was discussed in the first volume (i.e. Tantrapradipa on 4th section of the 8%h chapter).

The present critical edition is based on 2 manuscripts, (i) Manuscript of the Cooch Behar Sahitya Sabha, Cooch Behar, West Bengal, India and (ii) Manuscript of Varendra Research Museum, Rajshahi, Bangladesh.

First section of the 8th chapter of the Madhya-yr has 74 sutras but Maitreya did not comment upon all of them. He commented upon only 18 sutras (8.1.1-6, 8, 9, 12, 14-19, 24-26). The first section of the 8th chapter mainly deals with the rules of reduplication and accentuation.
