Preface
Ayurveda is the system of medicine followed in the India from thousands of years. It has seen many ups and downs but as the Indians have been faith in this system of medicine, it has been survived since ancient times. Ayurveda is not a healing science only, but it is a comprehensive science which is related to physical, mental and social wellbeing of this universe. With advent of lifestyle disorders, the world is optimistic about Ayurveda to find solution to such types of diseases.

Panchakarma are the specialized treatment procedures of Ayurveda, which eliminate vitiated Dosha out of the body and maintain the balance in the body. Panchakarma are useful to maintain the health as well as to cure the diseases. In present era Panchakarma has been a topic of curiosity among the scholars and scientists in the healthcare sector. With advancements in the critical care medicine faculty of the modern medical science, performing Panchakarma has been become easy and safe specially to tackle the complications if occurred.

Panchakarma, though the name indicates five procedures, there are more than twenty Procedures and accessory procedures have been performed. Although, there are different methods of applications of Panchakarma indifferent states in India, the principles of Panchakarma are one and same. In the state like Kerala, these procedures have been followed as tradition since many years and some specialized procedures have been followed called as Keraliyan Panchakarma.

Due to the attraction of panchakarma, it has been identified as separate subject by the central council of Indian medicine since 2002 and separate theory and practical examinations have been conducted at undergraduate level since 2014. Now it has been taught as a separate subject in the fourth year of B.A.M.S. and syllabus has been provided by the C.C.I.M. As there are only few books available as per this syllabus, the new book was needed. It has been attempted to cover each point of the syllabus through this book in short way and Panchakarma have been explained in theoretical and practical aspects in the balanced way. I hope this book would benefit all the U.G. students to appear for the examination.
