About the Book

This book is written in a very simple and lucid language for the first year students of BAMS course in tune with latest syllabus framed by the Central Council of Indian Medicine, New Delhi, Kriya Sharira is the fundamental subject and this book elaborates all the basic concepts like triguna, panchamahabhuta, tridosha, dhatu and mala with reader friendly presentation. Ayurvedic Concepts are explained with suitable diagrams, tables and flow charts for an easy understanding of the subject. Modern physiology is also briefly explained in both the parts at required places.

About the Author

Prof. Dr. Subhash Ranade is one of the foremost experts on Ayurveda. He is the chairman of international Academy of Ayurved in Pune, India (www.ayurvedint.com). He is a leading academician and physician in the field of Ayurveda and is the author of about 145 books on Ayurveda and Yoga which are published in Marathi, Hindi, Malayalam, and 13 international languages. He has worked as Prof. and head, Dept. of Interdisciplinary School of Ayurveda and Prof. and Head, Dept. of Ayurveda, Pune University. He has received Prof. Emeritus status from the University of Bremen (Germany)and University of Tel Aviv (Israel). Professor Ranade has given many national and international television international television interviews on Ayurveda and also has the honor of being visiting Professor to all the prominent Institutes around the world.

Prof. Dr. Rajendra Deshpande is an Ayurvedic consultant and Head of Department of Kriya Sharira at Ayurvedi college, Nigdi, Pune. He has done double post graduation (MD) in the subject of Ayurvedic Physiology and Ayurveda in Marathi, English and German languages. He has visited Switzerland, USA, Germany, Italy and Spain for Ayurvedic propagation.

Prof. Dr Swati Chobhe has been teaching Kriya Sharira for the last 24 years at Ayurved College, Nigdi, Pune. Her books are recommended as reference books by MUHS, Nashik. Dr Chobhe has contributed review articles in international peer reviewed journals. She was a resource person of syllabus formation workshop, organized by CCIM in 2012. She has visited countries like Poland, Israel, and Dubai for propagation of Ayurveda.

Volume 1

It gives all of us a great pleasure to publish revised edition of the book, Sharira Kriya Vijnan - Part 1.

In August 2012, Central Council of Indian Medicine, New Delhi revised and reorganized syllabus of Sharira Kriya Vijnan.

Revised syllabus of Sharira Kriya Vijnan is a perfect blend of Ayurvedic knowledge supplemented with concept of modern physiology.

The entire book has been rewritten, simplified and conveniently divided into part A and B and it encompasses all the syllabus recommended by the Central Council of Indian Medicine, New Delhi.

As Kriya Sharir is the fundamental subject, Part A of this book elaborates all the basic concepts like Triguna, Pancha-mahabhuta, Tridosha, Agni, Pachana etc.

Concepts of Tridosha and Mahabhuta are explained with suitable diagrams, tables and flow charts.

We have taken great care to include all the necessary references from all Ayurvedic classical compendia such as Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita etc.

Interpretations of the Ayurvedic references are done in simple but scientific language.

Part B of the book explains briefly modern concepts such as Cell physiology, Membrane transport, Respiration, Digestion etc.

The study of Kriya Sharira to Ayurvedic Physiology is prerequisite not only for understanding the basic functions of the living body but also finding remedies and answers tor different ailments that afflict human beings.

Considering all the above said importance of Sharira Kriya Vijnan, syllabus of Kriya Sharira is revised in such a way that it has become a unique combination of Ayurvedic physiology complimented with modern physiology.

The entire book of Sharira Kriya Vijnan Part-2 has been rewritten, simplified and conveniently divided into part A and part B.
