Book Description

Publisher's Note

Early morning meditation has long been a tradition at Sivananda Ashram. Held in the sacred Samadhi Hall of the founder of The Divine Life Society, His holiness Sri Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj, the present format was inaugurated by His Holiness Sri Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj during his birthday celebrations September 24, 1984. Since then, fulfilling a promise he made that day, whenever he has been in the ashram revered President Swamiji has given a daily talk during the morning meditation gathering.

In 1995, Swamiji Maharaj requested Sri Swami Atmaswarupananda Ji to also give a brief talk six mornings a week. Later he requested him to have the talks recorded and brought our in book form. This volume of 85 talks is in response to that request, and it is being released on the auspicious 85th birthday anniversary of revered Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj.

In the text, H.H. Sri Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj is referred to as "Gurudev," and H.H. Sri Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj is referred to as "Swamiji." Sanskrit words that the reader may not be familiar with can be found in the glossary.

It is hoped that many of the thoughts expressed in these talks will resonate with seekers after the Truth, and be of assistance to them in their Sadhana and their search for God.

About the Author

Swami Atmaswarupananda was born in Canada in 1925. In 1974, he came to Sivananda Ashram at the suggestion of his guru, His Holiness Swami Chidananda, the president of the Divine Live Society.

After twenty years, spent primarily in a life of study and reflection, his guru requested him to give a brief talk each morning at the conclusion of the early morning meditation gatherings. Later he suggested that a selection of the talks be brought out in book form.

The special value of these talks is that they express traditional Vedic teachings in a way that both touches the heart and is easy for the modern mind to understand.
