Book Description

Preface

I am happy to place before the scholars fifty third issue of the Indian Archaeology 2005-06 - A Review although belatedly, for which I would like to apologize to the readers.

This review incorporates the material submitted by various organizations engaged in archaeological activities in different fields of archaeology covering Explorations and Excavations; Epigraphy; Numismatics and Treasure Trove; Other Important Discoveries; Palaeobotanical and Pollen Analytical Investigation; Museums; Architectural Survey; Preservation of Monuments; Archaeological Chemistry; Archaeological Gardens and Publications. I am sure that the readers will find in these pages useful material. I am deeply beholden to all the contributors and colleagues whose efforts have helped in bringing out this issue.

Due to diversity of the material incorporated herein and vastness of the subject, the possibility of a few editorial inaccuracies cannot be ruled out. However, in regard to factual information and interpretation of data, the responsibility rests with the contributors.

For the vast and painstaking work of sorting out, compiling the data, editing, proof reading and making the copy for readers, I thank the editors Dr. D.N. Dimri, Director, Shri Abinash Mohanty, Deputy Superintending Archaeologist and Dr. Sujeet Nayan, Asst. Superintending Archaeologist. I am also thankful to Shri Atul Kumar Bhargava, Superintending Archaeologist; Dr. Piyush Bhatt, Asst. Superintending Archaeologist and Shri Hoshiar Singh, Production Officer; without their support this issue would not have seen the light of day.

I express my gratitude to Shri C. Dorje, Former Joint Director General of Archaeological Survey of India for going through the final proof and giving his valuable suggestions.

Finally, I would like to thank M/s Chandu Press, Delhi for bringing out the book.
