Preface
A Concise Geography of Nepal tries to give a short and comprehensive account on various aspects of Nepalese geography. The book covers a wide range of topics related to physical aspects (physiography, climate, rivers and lakes, vegetation, soil and natural resources etc.) and socio-economic development (population, agriculture, industries, transportation. trade etc.) with subsequent environmental implications.

It is but natural that planners and policy makers should be aware of the country's geographical realities while adopting pragmatic policies and judicious allocation and effective mobilization of resources to achieve sustainable development in the country. In this context, I have made an attempt to deal with various aspects of Nepalese Geography in a short and comprehensive manner so that it remains a source of information for students, teachers, policy makers, amateur readers and those who want to know Nepal from geographical perspective.

I would like to acknowledge my heartfelt thanks to the late Dr. Mahesh Chandra Regmi, a great scholar of Nepal, who inspired me to write a comprehensive geography of Nepal particularly for non-geographers. I would also like to express my thanks to scholars, friends and colleagues and my brother Prof. Ananda Shrestha who helped me in various ways in the publication of this book.
