Book Description
Tibetan medicine is increasingly becoming popular among non-Tibetans mainly due to the dedicated, honest and humble performances of a handful of skilled and expert - doctors who escaped to India when their homeland was overrun by Chinese invaders in 1959. In introducing Doctors Dolma and Dolkar as the Mother and Daughter of Tibetan Medicine, we bring to the interested readers a glimpse of an ancient Tibetan medical family from Kyirong in Western Tibet whose unbroken hereditary medical tradition now runs into the 14th generation. The publication of this compiliation is a poignant moment for us as the untimely death of Dr. Dolma, the Mother of Tibetan Medicine, on 15th December 1989 has plunged us into despair and grief. This volume is dedicated to her memory as a source of solace and inspiration to all those who knew her and especially to her two daughters, Pasang Gyalmo and Tsewang Dolkar, who now don their mother’s mantle as the 14th Khangkar doctors to carry forward and further enrich the Tibetan medical tradition which Dr. Dolma served, so meaningfully and compassionately, in her mission to end the suffering and sickness of the millions that came to seek her help.
