Book Description

About the book

The quest for health is essentially a quest for happiness. Which is why, beyond the superficial exercise, diet, nutritional supplements, yoga and similar therapies-although their benefits are by no means under dispute-the question of health needs to be addressed more holistically… by encompassing the mental; and emotional levels, and reaching into the spiritual core. Indeed, few books delve into the power of our unconscious personality and its impact on our everyday health. In this fine work, Swami Swaroopanada illustrates through his personal experience and the teachings of Scripture, just how far-reaching the journey into health truly is. Along the way, we are given the inspiration to discover not just our own well-being, but that which is the highest goal of human life.

About The Author

Swami Swaroopananda - disciple of the founder of the Chinmaya Mission, Swami Chinmayananda - is a highly accomplished teacher of Vedanta, the most profound Indian spiritual philosophy of Oneness. He lectures with equal ease to corporate executives, idealistic youths, and serious spiritual seekers.

In these illuminating and highly accessible talks, Swamiji unfolds the teachings to provide a bridge from the wisdom of the ancients to pertinent insights for tackling the most urgent questions of our times.

Other books authored by Swamiji include Ik Onkaar: Meditations on the One Indivisible Truth, Sankat Mochan: An Insight into Problems & Their Solutions, Simplicity and Meditation, Valley of Bliss, Avataar and Managing the Manager.

Foreword

It is a great honour to be asked to introduce this work by Swami Swaroopananda. At a time when many people are feeling that the busy-ness in their lives is taking them away from what they sense is a more natural and healthy way of being, it is timely indeed to have these peace and outer health. Perhaps one of the greatest strengths of this work is that it comes to us via one who is deeply steeped in a longstanding tradition.

In modern times when many people are looking for the quick fix, or the "new and right way" to do something, it seems that the more we go into it, the more we realize that the important things in life are constants that the ancients knew about and practiced. So what seems to be particularly relevant about this work is that it brings a warmth and humour to this ancient wisdom, which in turn makes it readily accessible for modern needs.

The delightful, touching stories complement the basic principle of finding happiness through the way we live. As Swamiji says, "Once you know your true Self, happiness can never be taken away from you".

This work will be helpful for those who do want to know themselves better and in doing that, accept not only themselves for who they are, but also the events of their life as having meaning and purpose. With this view estabilished, peace of mind is a very real possibility.
