The dictionary meaning of the word Scouting is exploring in order to gain information. A Scout is described as someone who can find paths through unexplored territory. He explores, often with the goal of finding something or somebody. A Girl Guide can be defined as one who shows the way by leading, directing, or advising; one who serves as a model for others, as in a course of conduct.
Scouting and Guiding is over a-hundred-year old movement with overwhelming number of boys and girls enrolled worldwide. The book describes various phases of its growth and development. It gives a detailed account of Scout Conferences, Jamborees and Rallies held at national and international levels.
The author has been an experienced Scouter, holding responsible positions in organising its multiferrous activities.
The present book is a translation of the Hindi title `Hamare Scout Guide' written by the learned Scouter Mr. R.S. Mishra, Lt. State Organising Commissioner (Scouts), Delhi. It is translated from Hindi by the author himself. The Hindi version was published by the Publications Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India in 1987. The Scout and Guide Movement is a potent and inspiring tool to inculcate the values of idealism, self-discipline, self-help and patriotism among the youth of the country. The book describes various phases of the growth and development of Scout and Guide Movement in the world and particularly in India. It gives a detailed account of Scout Conferences, Jamborees and Rallies held at national and international level.
The one name which stands out most prominently when we talk about Scout and Guide Movement is its founder Lord Baden Powell. Truly an impeccable man in thought and action he dedicated his life to see the movement go from strength to strength. The book recounts the sincere efforts and untiring labour of this legendary figure and many other great persons who subscribed their mite in giving the Movement its present shape.
