Book Description
This excellent book recording the history of the Theosophical Society from 1926-1950, has been painstakingly researched and is accurate in facts and shrewd in assessment.
Mrs Ransom tells us: 'I have tried to be accurate, to observe due proportion, to exercise the Corian's prerogative of impartiality, and to give a clear impression of how the great ideals of the Society are working themselves out." She has succeeded admirably.
Mrs Josephine Maria Ransom (1879-1960) worked in many capacities for the Theosophical Society, presiding successively during the 1920s and 1930s over the Society's organizations in Australia, South Africa and England. She also engaged in educational work in Sri Lanka and belonged for a time to the staff at the International Headquarters of the Society. She edited the international magazine The Theosophist.
THIS work by Mrs. Josephine Ransom is a continuation of her A Short History of the Theo sophical Society published in 1938, bringing the history of the Society up to that date. Her work was preceded by a work of mine which was prepared for the Golden Jubilee of the Theosophical Society in 1925. The story of the Society is narrated up to that period, and the book contains 222 illustrations of the principal workers in the Society from the beginning.
FOR the Golden Jubilee of the Theosophical Society in 1925, Mr. C. Jinarâjadâsa prepared a uniquely illustrated authentic history, which was called The Golden Book of the Theosophical Society. This present Commemorative Volume, prepared for the Double-Diamond Anniversary, carries forward the story of the Society from 1926 to 1950. The story is given in detail in my Short History, published in 1938, for the years 1925 to 1938, and is here presented in a condensed form so as to make the story continuous in this one book.
