A poet combines two elements in him. \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"GramE\"\u003ePratibha\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"GramE\"\u003e Poetic genius and \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eVyutpattiScholarship\u003c\/span\u003e.\u003c\/span\u003e Imageries are the outcome of \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003epratibha\u003c\/span\u003e the poetic genius. \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003ePratibha\u003c\/span\u003e has been defined and explained by two prominent critics differently. \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eBhatta\u003c\/span\u003e \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eTota\u003c\/span\u003e, and a renowned teacher of aesthetics \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eAbinava\u003c\/span\u003e Gupta, \u003cspan class=\"GramE\"\u003edefine\u003c\/span\u003e it as a faculty of mind fully capable of imagining new ideas.\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e \u003cp class=\"Style\" style=\"text-align:justify\"\u003e \u003cspan style=\"font-size:13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt\"\u003e\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e \u003cp class=\"Style\" style=\"text-align:justify\"\u003e \u003cspan style=\"font-size:13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt\"\u003eMahima \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eBhatta\u003c\/span\u003e, another \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eacarya\u003c\/span\u003e in the field of literary criticism in Sanskrit, states that things which are generally narrated in poetic works have two \u003cspan class=\"GramE\"\u003elooks :\u003c\/span\u003e One is seen by each and every man and the other is \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003easpected\u003c\/span\u003e by a poet only but not always. When a poet comes in a mood to create, his mind becomes steady for a moment in search of words and meanings appropriate to express his feeling and in that state of mental concentration he has a view of that special form of the thing. She has offered very good interpretations at places. Her work is not mere survey of all that was available to her, for she has at times some suggestions to make. Her lucid style has made the work a very readable one. I have no doubt that the students of Sanskrit language and literature will find this work very useful. When we study \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eKalidasa\u003c\/span\u003e, we find that all his works abound in imageries, whether it \u003cspan class=\"GramE\"\u003ebe\u003c\/span\u003e a drama, a \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003emahakavya\u003c\/span\u003e or a lyrical poem. It would not be an exaggeration if it is said that each and every verse of \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eKlalidasa\u003c\/span\u003e contains \u003cspan class=\"GramE\"\u003emore than one imagery\u003c\/span\u003e and at times a diversified imagery in it. \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eKalidasa\u003c\/span\u003e is famous for his similes and descriptions of nature. But his poetic excellences can be judged through his poetic imageries very well. N \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size:13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size:7.0pt\"\u003eJ \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size:13.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt\"\u003eresearch work has been devoted to the study \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size:13.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size:19.5pt\"\u003eof \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size:13.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt\"\u003ethe imagery of \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eKalidasa\u003c\/span\u003e up till now except a monograph by L.S. \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eBhandari\u003c\/span\u003e entitled the 'Imagery of \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eKalidasa\u003c\/span\u003e'. \u003cspan class=\"GramE\"\u003eI, therefore.\u003c\/span\u003e \u003cspan class=\"GramE\"\u003eintend\u003c\/span\u003e to bring out the beauty of \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eKalidasa's\u003c\/span\u003e art by giving the equivalent term of Imagery in Sanskrit Literature and by analyzing imageries which \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eKalidasa\u003c\/span\u003e employs in almost all his works.\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e \u003cp class=\"Style\" style=\"text-align:justify\"\u003e \u003cspan style=\"font-size:13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt\"\u003e\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e \u003cp class=\"Style\" style=\"text-align:justify\"\u003e \u003cspan style=\"font-size:13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt\"\u003eSanskrit rhetoricians often talk of \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eKavi-Pratibha\u003c\/span\u003e as the main cause of poetic excellence. \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003ePratibha\u003c\/span\u003e is \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eKavitvabija\u003c\/span\u003e. It is the \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eArthavastu\u003c\/span\u003e that comes into the mind of poets in the form of the result of \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eKavi-Pratibha\u003c\/span\u003e. \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003ePratibha\u003c\/span\u003e is that power of the poet which is capable of creating \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eApurva\u003c\/span\u003e \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eVastu\u003c\/span\u003e. The term \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eVastu\u003c\/span\u003e here stands (or Imagery and its adjective \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eApurva\u003c\/span\u003e \u003cspan class=\"GramE\"\u003esuggests\u003c\/span\u003e that the natural genius of a poet is in the use of novel imageries. Thus it is the \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eVastu\u003c\/span\u003e which is imagery in Western Literature.\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e \u003cp class=\"Style\" style=\"text-align:justify\"\u003e \u003cspan style=\"font-size:13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt\"\u003e\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e \u003cp class=\"Style\" style=\"text-align:justify\"\u003e \u003cspan style=\"font-size:13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt\"\u003eEvery image bears evidence of the poet's sureness of \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size:13.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size:10.5pt\"\u003eJudge\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size:13.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt\"\u003ement and delicacy of taste-the music, the \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003efulness\u003c\/span\u003e, the aptness, \u003cspan class=\"GramE\"\u003ethe\u003c\/span\u003e simplicity. \u003cspan class=\"GramE\"\u003ethe\u003c\/span\u003e purity and the sweetness used in \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eKalidasa\u003c\/span\u003e' images could not be imitated by other poets. It is due to these qualities of his own that he could draw in the minds of his readers a vivid and graphic picture of what he wished to .ay and it is this power of \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size:13.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;mso-bidi-language:HE\"\u003eexpression which is called poetic genius (\u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eKavitva\u003c\/span\u003e \u003cspan class=\"SpellE\"\u003eSakti\u003c\/span\u003e).
