Her short stories and novels have been translated into different Indian languages. She has travelled widely in South East Asia, Japan, Europe and Africa. She is the President of Assam Sahitya Sabha and presently Professor in the Department of Modern Indian Languages and Literary Studies. Its Delhi chapter, which was inaugurated by Late Shri Hitesh Deka, one of the well-known novelists of Assam and also the then President of Assam Sahitya Sabha, opened on 13th December, 1995. \u003cp\u003e For a long time, the need for a branch of Assam Sahitya Sabha in the national capital Delhi was felt strongly by Assamese intellectuals.
