Book Description
The life-long aim of Jyotiprasad Agarwalla (1903-1951) was to serve the cause of Assamese society and culture and service to Assamese society and culture for him meant service to Indian society and culture-and through these -to world culture as a whole. Literature, music, theatre, cinema, and even dance and architectural design there is hardly any artistic medium which Jyotiprasad had left untouched. But he was not just a gifted creative artist. He enriched each field not only with his colourful creations but also with his thoughtful reflections. And remarkably, the whole range of his creative and reflective activities represented a unified whole: they were the manifestation of a thoroughly well rounded personality in which there was the harmonious blending of a creative genius, a fire-brand visionary, a committed idealist, a passionate thinker and a dedicated man of the people.
Dr Birendranath Datta, the author of this monograph, was formerly Professor and Head of the Department of Folklore Research, Gauhati University. A well-known critic and researcher, Dr Datta's dissertations on folk life and culture have received national and international acclamations.
