Introduction
Indian mythology is full of stories of gods and goddesses. Sometimes, these celestial beings took the forms of beasts and birds. There are many wonderful myths about these divine creatures, which, like all mythological stories, have many versions and layers. These stories and myths have been simplified and recounted here for the young child.
The illustrations in this book have been adapted from the folk art of Mithila, in Bhiar. For about three thousand years, the women of Mithila have been painting the stories of gods and goddesses, and these child-like drawings are done in a similar style.
