Book Description

Foreword

This book unfolds the intimate profound relationship between Guru and disciple. Through this book the author Dr. Ashoke Kumar Chatterjee expounds •how the relationship between Guru and disciple should be. It quashes the theory of Guru being conceived of as a teacher and disciple as a student. This gross philosophy is a far cry from the eternal essence of Sadguru. The author has ingenuously explained the concept of Guru in this book dedicated to his revered most beloved Gurudeva, Satyacharan Lahiri Mahasaya. All the facts represented here are direct experiences the author underwent in regard to his Gurudeva.

Dr. Ashoke Kumar Chatterjee was the confidante of Satyacharan Lahiri Mahasaya. The latter reposed implicit trust in him regarding all matters be it material or spiritual. The latter depended a great deal on his -disciple Ashoke and always paid due regard to his decisions as Satyacharan knew that they stemmed from the one who was a yogi in the true sense of the term, so he could never be amiss. It was Satyacharan only who ascribed the term 'Yogacharya' to his disciple Ashoke.

The book also portrays the intense reverence and devotion Satyacharan possessed for Yogiraj Shama Churn Lahiree Mahasaya who was his Grandfather, but he never regarded Him in this light. He considered Yogiraj to be his Saviour and the Absolute, The reader will find the book interesting reading for it succinctly in graphic detail delineates the Iife of Satyacharan.

Introduction

Since the genesis of man there have been innumerable births and deaths and none keep count of this, similarly there is no count of the number of enlightened souls who have atained Brahma-knowledge. It is true that in man's kingdom this computation is absent, but the Absolute Master surely has the count. What purpose will this estimate serve to mankind? A great number of people prefer to live in material bliss whilst a few opt Atmasadhana and attain final release. Does this desire for release come in one birth only? When it arrives the quest begins; this type of seeker later is transformed into a yogi or sadhaka. All other men gain enlightenment from them. Was not Satyacharan such an enlightened person? There were plenty of miraculous incidents in Satyacharan's life. An affluent person possesses immense wealth, but if he takes pride in this it proves harmful for him. If a knowledgeable person is not modest then it is ignorance. Mahatma Satyacharan as a fulfilled yogi possessed profuse yogic wealth, but being a true yogi external manifestation of this was almost absent.

It is of no use increasing the size of this book by incorporating details of his yogic wealth, because this does not benefit man, instead it would provide the momentary thrill of a delightful piece which in turn does not conform to yogic discipline. Hundreds of men have come into contact with him, have strived to gain knowledge about him. At the behest of these people, a fraction of his big span of life has been delineated because it is not possible to obtain all information. If the learned devout reader is benefitted reading this brief piece on Mahatma Satyacharan then it will be a worthwhile endeavour.

The financial and whole hearted co-operation of Smt. Bharati Mukherjee, Sri Bhupendranath Mukherjee, Sri Harishchandra Singh, Sri Chinmoy Chowdhury, Shri K.B. Mehrotra etc. has made it possible for this book to be published.
