Spirituality and Positive Psychology

The world has become task- oriented, the scope of healthy emotional exchanges, cooperation, comparison, concern etc. are all lost in the quagmire of a materialism. The facts points out crises in the human culture . Scientific have became concerned with introducing changes in the scenario . with such a wave of new thought or assimilative process of older thoughts in the newer version, there arose a new orientation in psychology , called positive Psychology to encounter the battle of every human orientation . The day has come when, everybody should have an exposure to the system of concern, content and implied results in one life.

The Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture started celebrating the 15 th Birth Anniversary of swami Vivekananda. As a part of this celebration , the Institute organize d last year a National Seminar on spirituality and Positive Psychology , with the financial assistance from the Ministry of Cultural , Government of India. The presents volume contains papers presented in the seminar by distinguished personalities including a few monks of the Order , along with an addendum containing two articles .

Swami Vivekananda stressed on the positive attitudes of life –love, harmony , service and the like. Some of these concepts find echo in an emerging trend of psychological studies called Positive Psychology . In fact, most of these traits are considered as marks of spiritual wisdom .

Having kept this point in mind , the seminar was held last year on the aforesaid subject . now, since the seminar could be organized with a limited audience, we now want to reach out to larger number of people by publishing its proceedings so that those ideas may be disseminated to a larger cross section of the society . hope the presents volume will stand its readers in good stead in understanding the real message of spirituality and also in forming a positive attitude towards life from the standpoint of positive psychology . spirituality is broadening one’s self till it embraces all living beings. A spiritual man therefore , has a positive attitude towards life, as it is revealed also in different papers of the Seminar . Swamiji’s conviction, outcome of the Seminar.
