Book Description
Many of the patriotic songs (Swades) composed by Rabindranath Tagore, inscribed his passionate protest against the partition of Bengal in 1905. These patriotic poems are often regarded as milestones in the history of colonial Bengal and can therefore be read as resistance texts set to music. Significantly, two of the Swades songs now serve as the national anthems of India and Bangladesh— Janaganamana and Amur Sonar Bangla, respectively.
