The principles and treatment procedures of Ayurveda is being accepted by the whole world.
In context to opthalmology few disorders are so cumbersome to treat and annoying for the Doctor and patient too. Blepharitis is also one of such disease. Ayurvedic herbs are very useful and curative for such disease.
A small description is being given here in my book that may be helpful for human welfare to cure such diseases. Lastly i would like to put my thanks to Dr. B: Mukhopadhyay Proff. and Head, Shalakya Tantra B.H.U. who was always so kind generous and supportive to me forever.
It has been felt that in the developing world especially there is great increase in blindness with multifactorial problems of economic and social factors throughout this region.
Where as scope of this speciality is getting exploded with new technologies, the basic fact lies about prevention and cure of some problematic eye diseases economically and easily by better understanding of the disease and newer remedies.
The concept of disease of eye in Ayurveda is one of the greatest achievement. Sushruta (1000 BC to 200 AD) the father of surgery and subsequent authors classified ocular diseases systematically on topographical basis and enumerated them nicely and also mentioned briefly the etiology of eye diseases. They presented a wide and wise system of therapeutics with defensive mechanisms which protect individuals from graveness of diseases. The concept of blepharitis belongs to modern ophthalmology but it is a matter of great surprise that it broadly resemble to the concept of some ayurvedic eye diseases described by susruta and subsequent author like krimigranthi, pakshamasata, shyavavartma, klinnavartma.
The disease blepharitis has its own symptomatology and line of treatment, having use of antibiotics and lubricants for long term duration.
